February 2009 Western forces are losing ground to the Taliban. As US and UK forces struggle for a way forward in Afghanistan, this unique film shows one of the most dangerous outposts as it struggles to hold on. Youre the first reporter Ive seen here in 8 months, says Staff Sergeant O Brien, in a rare break from the Talibans incessant fire. This outpost in Kunar province is one of hundreds supposed to allow the Americans to win over locals and control Taliban movements. But its not working. The Taliban control the high ground around the bunker and attack every day. Weve got the most sophisticated equipment in the world, O Brien says but we cant pick up on one guy whos sitting 800 metres away from us shooting. Quitting his secure job to cover the Afghanistan conflict, mchugh is extremely passionate about this series. I will admit I was hooked on the story in Afghanistan recalls John, Not the danger or adrenaline, but the story itself. I could see that the reality on the ground was very different to the story being told back in the west. This documentary brings together John's reporting from across Afghanistan. In one instance he follows a US dust-off crew using helicopters for medical evacuation, Dust-off crews pride themselves on their reaction times. This later proved lucky for John, I am a member of an exclusive club: I have been shot during a gunfight.

October 2009 A $100m road project could be a strategic, economic and security lifeline for Afghanistanif it doesnt fall into the hands of the Taliban or warlords. Will a prize asset become a highway to hell? This project is the 21st century engineering project, a soldier told reporter Paul mcgeough, walk a few metres off the road and youre back in biblical times. February 2010 As the latest Nato-Afghan push against the Taliban gets underway, the spotlight is turned onto the young medical teams struggling to save lives and keep up morale in remote outposts. US forces have been marching into southern Afghanistan to fight the Taliban but there is little sign of their presence. As thousands of US soldiers backed by Afghan and British forces are fanning out across Helmand province, the offensive is believed to be just part of a wider operation to hunt down Taliban fighters across the country. Al Jazeera's Clayton Swisher reports from Kunar Province on the tactics of the Taliban.

Three days into the military offensive in Marjah, US Marines and their Afghan allies have come under repeated counter-attacks.
