Beltrán Leyva, who was also wanted in the US, was the highest-level drug lord killed since President Felipe Calderón launched his offensive against the cartels in December 2006. Some 400 troops surrounded his apartment in a luxury complex, sparking a two-hour gun battle, in which Beltrán Leyva's henchmen—known as the "Fuerzas Armadas de Arturo"—responded with automatic weapons and grenades. Six of the the henchmen were killed, one as he jumped from a window, as well as one member of the navy's Special Forces. Beltran Leyva was a top kingpin of the Sinaloa Cartel, until he split after a betrayal by Mexico's most wanted trafficker Joaquin Guzmán AKA "Shorty" led to the arrest of his brother Alfredo Beltrán Leyva in January 2008. This was a live recording of Dizzy and friends in Havana in 1985. "Night in Tunisia" was composed by Dizzy in 1942. In 1n 1985, Dizzy Gillespie returned to Cuba after an absence of 40 years. He was one of the first American jazz musicians to add Afro-Cuban elements to his music, and Cubans to his big band. Most notably, in the 40s, was percussionist, Chano Pozo. A then-young Arturo Sandoval (trumpet) and Gonzalo Rubalcaba (piano) sit in with Dizzy's band. Bari sax player, Sayyd Abdul al-Khabbyr, is remarkable. Walter Davis is on in this number.Great fun!

Pianist: Arturo Michelangeli playing Claude Debussy's "Reflets dans l'eau" in D-flat major from Images Book 1. "Reflets dans l'eau" translates to "Reflections in the Water." This pianist was hailed as the most mathematical in the 20th century. Aside from Gould, Michelangeli was considered a "human metronome." I find his Debussy ~slightly~ dry, but still amazingly colorful. contradictory statement, i know. Images Book 1 consists of three pieces, all composed within 1904 and 1905. I'm intersted to know, DO YOU CONSIDER DEBUSSY "IMPRESSIONISTIC?" if not.. what do YOU think he is?

Telecast March 22, 1952 from Carnegie Hall, New York City in the notes, Mortimer H. Franks reports that the engineers were unfamiliar with Carnegie Hall, and that explains the less than ideal camera shots and directions. Also, the hot lights got the 85 year old Toscanini sweating so much that by the end of the symphony he had to close his eyes and bear it! He never telecasted another concert live again.
