Imagine if a piece of paper powered your cell phone or cd player. That's the latest piece of amazing technology that researhcers at RPI, New York have come up with. The new battery, that looks like a piece of paper could one day provide a lightweight power source for electronics and other devices. The prototype square battery would be printed like a newspaper. Dr. Shaijumon Manikoth, a reserach associate and nanotechnologist at RPI says it is still a work in progress. "We were just working on it, how to come up with an integrated device which itself is a battery and which can be rolled up and twisted and inserted in any kind of devices," said Dr. Manikoth. The research was funded by the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research and the National Science Foundation.

http://www.ashdenawards.org/winners/kist05 KIST won an Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy in 2005. To find out more visit the link above and check out the Ashden Awards Blog http://ashdenawards.blogspot.com The Kigali Institute of Science, Technology and Management (KIST), has developed and installed large-scale biogas plants in prisons in Rwanda to treat toilet wastes and generate biogas for cooking. After the treatment, the bio-effluent is used as fertiliser for production of crops and fuelwood. Large prisons, each housing typically 5,000 prisoners, are a legacy of the troubled past of Rwanda. Sewage disposal from such concentrated groups of people is a major health hazard for both the prison and the surrounding area. The prisons also use fuelwood for cooking, putting great pressure on local wood supplies. Using biogas digesters to manage animal or human sewage is not a new idea, but in Rwanda has been applied on an enormous scale, and with great success. Each prison is...

Click here to watch this video Juan Enriquez: Decoding the future with genomics Juan Enriquez: Decoding the future with genomics

Tags: ted  tedtalks

http://www.ted.com Scientific discoveries, Juan Enriquez notes, demand a shift in code. The shift from cave paintings to hieroglyphics made possible the rise of Egyptian society, the pyramids, and the conquest of other peoples. The shift to binary code brought with it the era of computing and then the Internet, with vast implications for just about every area of human endeavor. Similarly, the rise of genomics has brought a shift in code toward the structure of life, with implications that are slowly revealing themselves. Enriquez argues that our ability to thrive in the culture created by this shift depends on our mastery of it, and companies whose futures lie with the intersecting fates of science, technology, and computing will do well to mind the knowledge gap -- and not get swallowed up by it.

Tags: development  disease  illuminati  machine  man  manufacture  molecular  Nanotechnology  NWO  robot  science  technology  virus  war

Nanotechnology refers broadly to a field of applied science and technology whose unifying theme is the control of matter on the atomic and molecular scale, normally 1 to 100 nanometers, and the fabrication of devices within that size range. It is a highly multidisciplinary field, drawing from fields such as applied physics, materials science, interface and colloid science, device physics, supramolecular chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. Much speculation exists as to what new science and technology may result from these lines of research. Nanotechnology can be seen as an extension of existing sciences into the nanoscale, or as a recasting of existing sciences using a newer, more modern term. link - http://www.crnano.org/index.html
